Exercise: Programming a Lucid Dream during Sleep

What’s Needed

a quiet, secluded room or place for you to meditate without interruption

loose-fitting, comfortable clothing

shoes removed

jewelry, hats, and any other exterior apparel removed

a mat, blanket, or towel suitable for you to recline on your back

a little light that you can see when reclining on your back; natural light is best

Procedure

Recline on your back with arms and legs outstretched at forty-five-degree angles so that no hands, legs, or other parts of your body are crossing. This is to allow energy to flow in a clockwise fashion in your body without disruption.

Begin rhythmic deep breathing. Take a full three seconds to draw air into you with thanks. Then hold it inside you for a full three seconds with appreciation for the energy in it, and then expel it for three full seconds with your blessing for its future use. Continue this cycle until it begins to feel automatic.

Focus on the energy centers in the seven major chakras of your total body, recognizing that consciousness resides within your chakras in the subtle energy bodies that surround your physical self. Focus first on the red energy of the base chakra near the bottom of your spine. Then focus on the orange energy in the abdominal area, the yellow energy of the mental body higher up, the green energy in the heart area, the blue energy of the brow area, the indigo area of the forehead, and the violet flame above your head.

Open your eyes just a little to allow the light above you to filter past your eyelashes. At first you perceive only white light. Absorb and hold as much white light as you can and then intensify it.

Now consciously transform the white light into yellow light, building its intensity until it’s bolder and brighter. Then transform the yellow light into orange light. Once you have intensified the orange light until it is bold, bright, and bouncy, transform it into red light. Once you have intensified the red from a pale red to a bold and energetic red light, transform it into a purple light. Consciously intensify the purple light from indigo to violet until it becomes a violet flame.

Now hold the full light inside you and close your eyes.

Focus your conscious attention on your physical body, beginning at your toes. Consciously put your feet to sleep, allowing them to become numb and restful. Then focus on putting your legs to sleep in this way, followed by your torso, chest, arms, and head. When you have put your nose, ears, and scalp to sleep in this fashion, your physical body should be totally at rest. This will allow you to go within yourself without physical distraction.

Now consciously tune out all external and internal distractions. Continue until no thought or words are going through your mind.

Next focus your mind’s eye on a screen before you. The screen is lighted and energized, awaiting you.

On this screen, begin to draw or paint a picture of the location and time you want to travel to.
